The setup is: MPB(M1) Elgato Pro Dock LG 34WK95U. I downgraded to DP 1.2 but it does not make any difference. Sometimes it helps to power off the monitor or re-plug the cable but it already happened twice in the past 24h that nothing but reboot solved the issue. The cursor can move over to the external screen. LG backlight starts MacBook detects the external display and rearranges screens but the external monitor stays black with backlight one. It happens every so often that the internal display wakes up but the LG 34WK95U is in kinda zombie state. now my M1 MacBook Pro has issues with waking the external display even in the normal opened lid mode. The firmware update brought a slew of new issues though. Obviously, you could use native 5120x2160 but this is a bit too much IMO. The effectively scaled res is 3008x1269 instead of 3360x1417 like on my previous MacBook Pro (2018) and from what I learned from this forum this is caused by M1 limitation. Previously I could run 5K only in DP 1.2. The thing now works over Display Port 1.4 in full 5K. I did a factory reset on my 34WK95U and connected it back to M1 MacBook Pro. The update process took very long, about 45 min. To my surprise, it detected a firmware update! I was updated from 3.11,0,2.xx to 4.12, 16, 4.17. I connected my 34WK95U via USB-B as an upstream instead of USB-C and HDMI for video. Today I set up a Windows 10 laptop and installed an LG OnScreen Control. This software does not work on Big Sur just yet. I tried with Catalina on several occasions with different LG monitors like LG 27UK850-W and LG 34WK95U there were a bunch of wired errors or the app was saying that the firmware is up to date. The software never worked on macOS though. I know that there are firmware updates for LG monitors and one could apply these with a software called LG OnScreen Control which can be downloaded directly from lg.com. I eventually gave up and I'm using this thing open. Something happens because I can see the monitor backlight goes on and it searches for the video source but eventually, it fails and goes back to sleep. Every time I wake up my MacBook Pro from sleep by clicking the mouse or keyboard monitor does not wake up. What solved the issue was to downgrade the DP protocol from 1.4 to 1.2 and now it works with 5120x2160 but only when it wakes up. At first, I could not get it to run 5K at all it was stuck at some wired 3xxx x 1440. I'm facing a pretty annoying issue with the external monitor LG 34" 5K LG 34WK95U.
